FALL 2019 READY-TO-WEAR
TOP LOOKS
COMMENTARY
Is it the 70’s? Because it sure looks like it! The subtle 70’s trends we’ve been seeing on other runway shows is in full force here. Who doesn’t love a good throwback? It’s evident that this collection was inspired by the 70s. There are platform shoes, bootleg pants, shearling coats, ascots and neckties, sequence, and feather boas just to name a few. Michael Kors did modernize the trends a bit, but not to the point that it took away the aesthetic of the trend. The collection was essentially “What to wear to a 70’s themed party in 2019.” There are so many fun pieces and colors, you can’t look at this collection and not think about partying the night away in one of those fabulous sequin dresses. Statement coats are a thing now and they’re here to stay. You won’t hear me complaining about it, that one metallic colored coat was to die for. The accessories in this collection were the ultimate homage to the 70’s. And The floppy hats, neck ties, turbans, ray bans, etc. Is what tied each look together to give the 70s experience.
The color palette of this collection had grey, brown, purple, black, and nude. There were also monochromatic nude outfits that were surprisingly bold. Then there’s plaid, the immortal staple of any Fall/Winter collection. With all the plaid we saw last year, I’m just not here for it in 2019. Sequins were huge in the 70’s and were very present here as well.
I love seeing old trends modernized and made fashionable once more. The 70s Is always going to be remembered for its wacky fashion trends (bell bottom pants!) so I think it’s always fun to go back and give people a sense of what it once was and what it is now. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come in with the definition of fashion was then and what it is now. The never ending cycle of trends and styles means that nothing ever truly goes out of style.
Everyday Wearability: 👠👠👠 out of 10
Frankly speaking, this collection is not the most wearable correction but that doesn’t take away from the creative vision for this collection. I loved the outfits, but they belong on the runway.
