COMMENTARY
All eyes are on Wes Gordon, as the new creative director of Carolina Herrera everyone is waiting to see if the brand will sink or swim under his supervision. So far, he has exceeded everyone’s expectations and has taken Carolina Herrera’s brand above and beyond.
The collection was full of long skirts, both floor-length and cocktail dresses, spacious rain coats, and exquisitely tailored blouses. This was an entirely modern collection, the cutouts in the blazers added a twist that was both modern and sensual. While it doesn’t make sense to have thin fabrics star in a fall collection, but partially or completely transparent fabrics made up a significant portion of this collection.
Robert Mapplethorpe was a controversial photographer in the 70’s and 80’s and this collection was inspired by his less controversial, but no less evocative, floral still lives. The evidence of that is seen in the bright colors and floral patterns that are the focus of this collection. A jarring but visually appealing deviation from the norm, these colors are undeniably bold. The bright colors are a rebellion against the muted color palettes that are typical of fall collections. The whole collection is one last celebration of color, a large middle finger to the lifeless and colorless winter that will soon be upon us.
Expect more surprises as designers keep innovating, subverting trends and going far above expectations. This collection holds a power that is all its own. Every look in this collection is just visually stunning, I can’t look away. I’m very impressed with Wes Gordon, he has done an impeccable job with this collection and with his previous collection and I just love him bring new life to Carolina Herrera.
Everyday Wearability: 👠👠👠👠👠👠👠 out of 10
Unless you really don’t like color, this collection is absolutely wonderful. Those cocktail dresses were fantastic and those blazers were nothing short of spectacular.
