“The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is often times chilling, but is a much greater adventure. Netflix’s new spin off on the hit comic-series and sitcom "Sabrina the Teenage Witch", which stars Kiernan Shipka as our rebellious teenage witch, gets off to a spellbinding start. Over the course of the 10 episodes in the series, she begins to realize this adventure of hers is more toil and trouble than it’s worth.

We are introduced to a 15 almost 16-year-old Sabrina Spellman as she’s counting down the days to her 16th birthday where in her family, also marks the night of her “dark baptism.” Think of it as a girls quinceñera with the added step of signing your name in Satan's book. The struggles of being a teenage witch these days.

The Devil isn’t just in the details here; he’s everywhere, with his clomping hooves and goat head. He's wreaking havoc and dispatching his servants to torture and coerce Sabrina into signing his book without hesitation. But Sabrina doesn’t want to submit to baptism, and she doesn’t want to sign her life over to the Dark Lord. If she decides to sign the book, it would mean giving up her mortal life; however, Sabrina wants to stay in the ordinary world, with her doting boyfriend, Harvey (starring Ross Lynch), and her spunky best friends, Roz and Susie (played by Jaz Sinclair and Lachlan Watson respectively).

Like any teenage hero, Sabrina would rather do things her way. “I want freedom and power,” she pleads. Unfortunately for her, it's just not the way things fly when dealing with Satan. Coming down to the wire, Sabrina must make the difficult decision of giving up either her witch life or signing the Dark Lord's book and giving up her mortal life.

Overall, the show has takes a much darker approach to the witch that we all know and love. Giving it a dark and gritty vibe along with a 50's retro aesthetic, much like it's sister show "Riverdale", both created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. There are times during the show where it's highs are quickly rushed through and the plot is moved along, but it sometimes tends to slow down during it's duller moments. However, even it's dullest moments, the show is carried by it's incredible arsenal of actors, forming a truly magnificent cast filled with lots of chemistry. If you ever get the chance, “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is definitely worth the watch.
