When you're packing do you ever feel like you're forgetting something? My friends are always asking me for a traveling checklist for when they're traveling, and I decided to share it with you all. Traveling can be extremely stressful, and the last thing you want to do is forget something. This is an extensive list created so you aren’t just prepared, you’re basically ready for everything. I admit that when traveling I pack a bit more on the excessive side, but it works for me. The things I pack in my carry on help me feel comfortable when traveling. What I pack may or may not work for you, but I recommend figuring out what you need to travel comfortably. There are my carry on must haves.
The best, and most practical tip I can give you is to make like Santa: make a list and check it twice because you will forget something the first time around (unless you’re a robot).
First thing is first, you need a big dense bag with a lot of space that can carry everything you want to take with you. It can be a handbag or a backpack, whatever you prefer. Not only do you need a bag big enough to fit everything, but also mini bags. Why mini bags? The mini bags will keep everything organized opposed to having everything laying out mixed together. I usually use the bags I have gotten from Ipsy. They make great little bags for traveling.
Electronics I always find myself checking my bag multiple times to make sure I have all my electronics when I’m traveling because I am so scared of losing them. Reminder to download all your shows, movies, and playlists before takeoff. - Phone - Phone charger - Portable charger - iPad/Tablet - Headphones - Laptop - Laptop Charger - Camera (w. battery, SIM card, charger, etc.)
Dental Before a trip, I always go to Target and have a shopping spree in the travel section. My dad is a dentist, so I really pay attention to my teeth. Target sells a mini dental pouch that includes the following a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash. I love the fresh, clean feeling that comes with brushing my teeth so I like having the option to do so if I feel the need.
Skincare Everyone knows that the air in plane cabins will dry out even the most moisturized skin. Sheet masks and eye masks are easy to apply and don’t have to be rinsed off so they’re ideal. I have minis of all the products I use, and that’s what I have with me on my carry on. I have my face wash, moisturizer, eye cream, serum, and sunscreen. I also love having masks with me when I fly. My favorite masks to travel with are WANDER BEAUTY Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks, GLOW RECIPE Watermelon Glow Jelly Sheet Mask, Burt's Bees Hydrating Sheet Mask, and YES TO Coconut Energizing Coffee Super Eye Mask.
Makeup I’m not the type of girl that will go to the airport with a full face of makeup. Makeup-wise, I try to be as minimal as possible when flying/traveling. My skincare and my makeup are in the same bag, so if I want to spritz my face with a face mist and then put on some lipstick I totally can. I usually have a travel sized cc cream, a bronzer, powder, and mascara. There have been times where I have had an event or something to go to right after I land so this is my way of being prepared.
Hair I have frizzy wavy hair so I don’t typically use a hairbrush, but I still have it on me. A must have, is hair ties and scrunchies. I always have hair ties on me because you never know when you need it, and people tend to borrow them from me left and right. I also travel with my travel sized Gisou Honey Infused Hair Oil. Planes don’t only dehydrate my face but my hair as well, and the GIsou keeps it hydrated and look shiny and clean.
Medicine I always like to be prepared. You never know when illness can strike. I always make sure to have different types of medication on me just in case. I have a little medicine bag that I take with me on every single trip. My must haves include: EmergenC This is my lifeline. I have EmergenC on me not only when I’m traveling, but usually in my purse. I hate being sick more than anything in the world, so this is my preventive measure. Whether you are on a 45 minute or 9 hour you could easily catch a cold. I like to take an EmergenC right after my flight to strengthen my immune system in case I was exposed to anything that could make me sick.
DayQuil and NyQuill I don’t take either of these medications unless I am sick, but there is nothing worse than being sick and needing these medications and not having them. I like to have these on me because there are my go to meds for whenever I have a cold.
Aleve/Advil These are just basic pain pills that I think everyone usually has on them. I typically use these medications for headaches and for that time of the month. I hate headaches more than life itself, and it’s maybe a hundred times worse on an airplane so again precautionary measure.
Pepto Bismol This is my go to for any type of stomach pain. I need to have this with me when I travel just in case of anything.
Zyrtec I have allergies, and they tend to act up more when I’m traveling. Zyrtec is my personal favorite allergy medication. My body is very strange that sometimes it doesn’t react well to the medication so I have to switch up my allergy medications, but this is my goto.
Sanitization All sanitization products are in my carry on. I need to have both hand sanitizer and wet wipes on me at all times. You never know when they’re going to come in handy. When I’m flying, I always wipe down my entire section with a wet wipe, just because it makes me feel like my space is that much cleaner. Whether you are a clean freak or not, these are two items that I highly recommend having with you while you’re traveling. Snacks If you are like me, then you are hungry 24/7. I am always hungry so I like to have snacks on me to prevent me from buying unhealthy snacks in the airport. I typically have 2 to 3 bars on me. I like the RX Bars and the Kind Bars. I also love having a fruit like a green apple and then having that with Justin’s almond butter. They have these squeeze packs that are perfect for traveling. These snacks keep me full and can usually last me throughout the flight.
Water Bottle We have all probably heard on several occasions how important it is to keep yourself hydrated during a flight. When I travel, I love having a reusable water bottle on me. I have a reusable water bottle on me at all times of the day to keep me hydrated.
Hand Cream & Lip Balm Like I’ve already mentioned, planes are very dehydrating. I hate the feeling of dryness anywhere on my body so I always have a hand moisturizer and a lip balm. When traveling I don’t like using products that are very strong in scent because it tends to give me a headache so I try using products that are unscented and really moisturizing. Some of my favorite products are the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant, Vaseline Intensive Care Hand Lotion, Aquaphor Lip Repair Moisturizing Gel, and Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask
Fuzzy Socks & Cozy Sweaters I may be the only person who does this, but I like being warm on planes so I can fall asleep. I bring a pair of fuzzy socks with me to change into when I get on a plane, as well as a cozy sweater. I don’t like using the blankets supplied by the airline so I make sure the sweater is big enough to keep me warm throughout the flight.
There you have it! Those are all my essentials and while the list is long, I’m never stranded at the airport or in my plane seat wishing I had something that I didn’t pack.
